Sibshops at Marcfirst

We are very happy to announce that Marcfirst will be offering Virtual Sibshops, an exciting program just for brothers and sisters of children with special needs. During Sibshops brothers and sisters will:

  • Meet other brothers and sisters of children with special needs
  • Have fun
  • Talk about their brothers and sisters with others who really know what it is like to have a sibling with a disability
  • Make new friends
  • Learn more about different disabilities and the services that people with disabilities receive and...
  • Have more fun!

Sibshops are a mixture of games and discussions just for 7 to 12-year-old brothers and sisters of children who have special needs.

Kathi Humke is a trained Sibshop facilitator and will lead upcoming Sibshops. Kathi has been running Sibshops off and on since her training in 1990 with Donald Myer, the originator of the Sibshops program. Kathi has spent her life working in the field of special needs including teaching children with multiple disabilities in the public school and providing developmental screenings for young children. As a Lekotek leader she learned the importance of supporting the entire family including siblings of the child with a disability. The last 25 years, Kathi has been providing Developmental Therapy services through the Illinois Early Intervention System.
